{Winter-White Wreath}

Yarn wreaths are all the rage in craftblogland, so I decided to try making one. I went for a white wintery look to hang on the mirror above my mantel.

I got my foam wreath form from Michael's. They only had one in stock and it was broken, so my cheapskate alter ego kicked in and I politely asked for insisted on getting a great discount...and guess what? I got it for 80% off! Never hurts to try!
Never-mind that I was possibly that poor store clerk's worst nightmare of a customer for a few minutes.
I got home and pulled out my trusty duct tape and it was as good as new. Oh, how I love getting a good deal :)

Here is a great tutorial if you are interested in making a yarn wreath. The only thing I did differently is wrap several layers of batting around the foam wreath to make it fatter. I cut the batting into long 6-inch-wide strips and wrapped it around and around until it had the thickness I wanted, and then I wrapped the yarn on top of the batting. It took a couple of hours, so pop in a chick flick before you start winding.

I had a hard time deciding what to embelish it with, or if I should at all. It looked pretty great just plain...but I wanted something really classic-looking.

Then I remembered a brooch I made a few months ago at a family girls-only retreat. We made them out of doilies, handkerchiefs, and costume jewelry that once belonged to grandmas and great-grandmas who have passed away. It was a great project that had a lot of meaning for everyone there, and it was so fun to come home with a family keepsake to pin onto purses, jackets, headbands.....or wreaths

The brooch gave it just the look I was hoping for. I then glued on some pearl beads in flower-shapes and called it good.

Here it will stay until I decorate for spring!

Happy Winter!
